Free to start. Fair when it matters.
Drop an export into Message Review and watch it find the incidents, free. $29 a month writes every one of them up, opens every message inside them, and sends the report to your phone and your attorney. $149 the month you build the record, in the Mac and Windows app. What you import stays on your computer after any paid month ends, and Free keeps one Matter open.

Running matters for clients?
One Evidence month is unlimited matters and unlimited imports, so a backlog of client evidence prep fits inside a single billing cycle at $149. Firms generally keep it running: the free tier holds one matter open at a time.
Cancel. Your evidence stays.
Lite is for the months you are gathering. Evidence Edition is for the weeks you pull two years of messages together and produce the exhibits. When either ends, your account does not reset.
Evidence Edition
What the month actually buys.
- The export is built by the Mac and Windows desktop app, on your computer, from your own files. The hashes are computed where the originals live, and nothing is uploaded to make it.
- Unlimited imports. A two-year thread with 4,000 messages comes in whole.
- Unlimited matters, all open at once.
- Clean exports: per-file SHA-256 manifest, Bates numbering, FRE 902(14) certification template.
- Billing is month to month and renews until you cancel. Cancel the day you finish.
What changes when you upgrade.
Which of these happen in your browser, and which in the desktop app
Before you install anything.
Drop a real export into Message Review and watch it run in your browser. It finds the incidents and writes them up. How many come back is the only thing that changes as you move up.
Paste up to 8,000 characters, or drop a file. Analyze the same export again later and the report narrows to one incident.
Paste twice as much, and get one full Message Review a day with a shorter second look. This is the step that costs nothing.
Every message inside every incident is readable, not just the top few. It reads three times as far into a long export, and 500 Message Reviews a month. Evidence Edition is the same here; what it adds is the export.
Start a Message Review. No account required to start, and we delete your upload within 24 hours unless you send the report to your phone.
Fair pricing, plainly explained.
Do I need a subscription to try CustodyComms?
No. Run a Message Review in your browser without installing anything, and the desktop app gives you 350 messages to try it with. Enough to see how it works against your own messages before you decide.
Can I upgrade for one month and then cancel?
Yes. Both paid plans are month-to-month, and cancelling does not reset your account. Everything you imported stays readable and searchable, and your exports stay yours. What pauses is new imports past 350 messages and unwatermarked exports. On the free tier one matter stays open, the one you imported to most recently.
What does Evidence Edition Lite add?
Everything on this site that a subscription opens. Every incident in your Message Review is written up and every message inside it is readable, the report goes to your phone and can be shared with your attorney, and the chronology downloads as a clean PDF. The desktop evidence export stays watermarked. When the hearing is set and you need the export, Evidence Edition is the month you upgrade, from Manage Subscription in your account.
Why is Evidence Edition a desktop app?
Because the export has to be built where your files are. The Mac and Windows app reads your exports on your computer, computes every SHA-256 hash on the machine that holds the originals, and writes the manifest, the Bates numbers and the chain-of-custody log there, without uploading your messages to do it. A browser tab cannot make that guarantee about where the work happened; a desktop app can, and that is what the export is for.
What counts as a “message”?
Every imported text, email, chat, or app message. A two-year iMessage thread with 4,000 exchanges counts as 4,000, which is why most active matters want Evidence Edition.
Is Evidence Edition the same for parents and attorneys?
Yes, same feature set. Firms with multiple attorneys and paralegals typically want Firm Licensing for seats, client workflows, and volume pricing.
What does “watermarked” mean on Free and Lite?
It depends which surface made the file. On Free, the artifacts a Message Review produces in your browser carry a small “CustodyComms” mark on each page; on Evidence Edition Lite they come through clean. On Free and on Evidence Edition Lite the desktop app’s evidence export is a marked preview: every page says so, the export ends at page 99, and the lower part of every second page is covered. A marked file is meant for evaluation and for the months before the record is due, not for filing. The clean evidence export is Evidence Edition.
Any refunds?
Unused subscription time is non-refundable, which is what the Free tier is for: run a Message Review in your browser, and run the app against your own messages, before you subscribe. We always correct billing errors and duplicate charges. If a fault on our end makes the app unusable, contact us. Cancelling stops the next charge, and your plan stays on until the month you have paid for runs out. If you live in Australia, New Zealand or Canada, this does not take away a remedy your local consumer law gives you.
All plans include access to formatting tools. No plan guarantees a legal outcome.
Cloud AI analysis, the free sample analysis on this site, and the chat assistants are available in the United States and its territories, Canada (except Quebec), Australia and New Zealand only. Work you do on your own computer in the desktop app — importing messages, building your timeline, reviewing incidents and exporting them — is not restricted by where you are, and neither is downloading the app or managing your subscription.
