Four steps, and the place each one happens.
Some steps run in your browser, some on your phone, and the export is made in the desktop app on your own computer. Each step below says where. The last section says where your messages go.
- ImportBring in an export from any app: OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents, AppClose, iMessage, SMS, email and more.
- AnalyzeFind the incidents, and read every message inside them.
- ShareSend the report to your phone, share it with your attorney, keep it in your account.
- Export to evidenceThe clean, FRE 902(14)-structured export with its manifest, Bates numbering and chain-of-custody log, from the desktop app.
Lite is Import, Analyze and Share. The Export to evidence is Evidence Edition. What each plan costs.
Import
Bring in an export from any app: OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents, AppClose, iMessage, SMS, email and more.
In your browser
custodycomms.com, nothing to install
Drop one exported conversation into Message Review, or paste some messages. One conversation at a time, and no account needed to start.

Nothing is imported here. The app opens a report or a case that was sent to it. Importing happens in your browser or the desktop app.
On your computer
the desktop app, Mac and Windows
Bring in your exports, all into one matter on your own computer. Each file gets a fingerprint when it comes in and is checked again before any export, so you can tell if anything changed. How much you can bring in depends on your plan.

The demo finds the incidents in what you uploaded and writes them up. It runs on this site, free to start.
On your phone
the free iPhone app
Read the report that was sent to you: every incident, and the messages inside it. Nothing is analyzed on the phone. The app shows what was already found.
On your computer
the desktop app, Mac and Windows
The Incident Finder checks the messages between the two people in your matter, on your own computer. You read every message, add private notes, and edit any write-up before it goes anywhere.

A report downloads as a sample PDF. That is a preview, not the evidence export. The export is made in the desktop app.

An export that reached your phone opens there and can be passed on. None is produced here. The export is made in the desktop app.

Choose what goes in, then make it: one Bates-numbered PDF, a fingerprint (SHA-256) for every file, a record of how each file was handled, and a certification page for a qualified person to sign.
See what the export looks likeWhat a court then does with an export is the court’s call, not ours. What the evidence rule asks for explains who has to sign, and what a judge can still ask for.
Where your messages go
Three places, three different answers. These are the Privacy Policy’s own words, quoted exactly, not our summary of them.
There you upload a complete exported conversation file to us. We extract the text from that file, send the extracted text to OpenAI to produce a sample analysis, and hold the extracted text and the resulting report for up to 24 hours so you can reopen the report in that window, unless you send the report to your phone, in which case we keep it until you delete it. If the file is a scanned or screenshot PDF whose text cannot be read directly, or a zip file holding one, we send that PDF to OpenAI instead, whole or a few pages at a time, so the text can be read from its pages. The demo may also read photos or screenshots of a conversation that you upload as image files. Each image is sent to OpenAI so that the text in it can be read, and that text is then handled as text extracted from an uploaded file; we do not keep the image itself.
When you choose to send a sample report to your phone, we keep the report and place encrypted copies where the CustodyComms applications can open the report: for you, on your devices, including devices you add later while the share is active, and for anyone you invite to it. “Save to my account” and “Share with my attorney” send the report the same way. Because our website prepares these copies, we hold a key that can open it for as long as it exists. Cases shared from the applications are encrypted on your device before upload; we do not hold a key that opens one shared from version 2.0 or later, but we do for one shared from an earlier version (Section 8.1).
In the desktop and mobile applications, the text of messages, images, documents, and other case data stays on your device. If you turn on cloud AI there, the messages in the incidents you send go as written, with the participants' names, through a Cloudflare Worker we operate to OpenAI and are not persisted in our databases (see §7.2 for the full retention statement).
Read the Privacy Policy for the rest, including how long each of these is kept and how to delete it. Security covers how each of the three is protected.
Cloud AI analysis, the free sample analysis on this site, and the chat assistants are available in the United States and its territories, Canada (except Quebec), Australia and New Zealand only. Work you do on your own computer in the desktop app (importing messages, building your timeline, reviewing incidents and exporting them) is not restricted by where you are, and neither is downloading the app or managing your subscription.
Start free. Go as far as you need.
Try it on a real export for nothing. $29 a month is for keeping up as it happens: every incident it finds written up, every message inside it readable. $149 a month covers the whole case: your messages, documents and photos in one matter, turned into one exhibit binder. Nothing you have imported goes away when a paid month ends.
Evidence Edition
What it actually buys.
- The export is built by the Mac and Windows desktop app, on your computer, from your own files. The hashes are computed where the originals live, and nothing is uploaded to make it.
- Unlimited imports. A two-year thread with 4,000 messages comes in whole.
- Unlimited matters, all open at once.
- Clean exports: per-file SHA-256 manifest, Bates numbering, FRE 902(14) certification template.
- Billing is month to month and renews until you cancel. Cancel the day you finish.
