Exporting from Gmail

Email threads from Gmail can be imported using the standard MBOX format, which Google Takeout provides.
Download your emails
- Go to takeout.google.com and sign in.
- Deselect all products, then select only "Mail".
- Under Mail, click "All Mail data included" and filter to the specific label or date range you need.
- Choose your export format (MBOX) and delivery method.
- Google will email you when the export is ready to download.
Import into CustodyComms
- Unzip the Google Takeout download and find the .mbox file in the Mail folder.
- Open CustodyComms and click "Import Messages" in the left sidebar.
- Under "Where are your messages from?", click "Email".
- Click "Choose File" and pick the .mbox file. You can also drag it onto the screen.
- Map the participants and complete the import.
For large mailboxes, filtering by label or date range in Google Takeout keeps the export manageable.
