Exporting SMS from Android

Platform: Android

Android text messages are imported from an XML backup file. CustodyComms reads the .xml file that the SMS Backup & Restore app creates.

Create the backup

  1. Install "SMS Backup & Restore" from the Google Play Store (free).
  2. Open the app and tap "Create a backup".
  3. Select the conversations you need (or all messages).
  4. Save the backup file. Transfer it to your computer via USB, email, or cloud storage.

Import into CustodyComms

  1. Open CustodyComms and click "Import Messages" in the left sidebar.
  2. Under "Where are your messages from?", click "Android SMS".
  3. Click "Choose File" and pick the .xml backup file.
  4. Map the participants and complete the import.
CustodyComms reads the file on your computer.
